Babatunde Fashola, the former governor of Lagos state was the first to be screened today by the Senate at the ministerial screening.

Below are some remarkable things Fashola said during his screening.

1. Our work in Lagos was a Team effort; I won’t appropriate personal responsibility for the Good Work.

2. Security remains the primary but toughest job a leader can have; it was a competition, as governor, I felt responsible for every citizen that was robbed. We are under policed based on statistics and my recommendation is decentralization.

3. Government exists to protect citizens and their assets therefore criminals are my competitors.

4. If we are afraid of abuse, start the state police. Not every state police should start if it can’t be funded.

5. Security is the toughest job a leader has. I felt responsible for every citizen who was robbed.

6. Before we increase taxes we must optimize the capacity to receive what is in place.

7. Online Technology is a very versatile tool for tax collection… moving to it would be important, encourage productivity to increase income and revenue.

8. I will get a hold of Abuja’s resources and District problems. Include people who live on the fringes of the society. Though, my Knowledge of Abuja is not as deep as my knowledge of Lagos.

9. I will walk away from the tendency to condemn the level of development of our Country.

10. We must commend our founding fathers for conceptualizing the creation of Abuja.

11. We are investing more outside our country than we are in the country which is the major challenge. This Nation has a lot of money outside its borders. Nigerians are investing more abroad.

12. We don’t borrow to pay Salaries or Buy Generators; we borrow for Capital Expenditures’

13. Nobody can fairly accuse me of giving my word and going back on my word. I have remained loyal to causes I signed to. I stand by my word. But may our Loyalty never be tested.

14. Government should not get involved in needless disputes.

15. I don’t sign cheques, none of my commissioners ever signed a cheque. I never signed a cheque. It’s a institutional process. I don’t sit in award for contracts; there is a state tender board and later the state procurement agency.
